Many people are not aware of Chinese culture. People have failed to notice that many Asian (Chinese) families have traditions and customs to the way they live in America.
Driving Question: How can we solve the problem of people not knowing about chinese culture by making a website and being involved in a classroom?
Indirect Question: How can we expand the awareness and knowledge of Chinese culture effectively in the classroom?
Indirect Question: How can we expand the awareness and knowledge of Chinese culture effectively in the classroom?
Problem Statement: In an ideal community, students who take Chinese would learn about the culture and language equally. Because they are learning and understanding the language and culture is equally important, especially if you plan on working with Chinese businesses or Chinese people. China is one the largest growing economies! Those who do not understand the Chinese culture will find themselves in "awkward" situations. For example, if you were to do business with Chinese people and you were completely unaware of their customs, you could lose business with them because you did something that was inappropriate or rude.
SMART Goal:
Specific: How will we expand awareness and knowledge of Chinese culture effectively in the two or three classes we are presenting to
Measureable: We will go into two or three Chinese classes. We will also use our website to spread information of Chinese culture to our readers. Our plan is to post articles, photos, documentaries and more about Chinese New Year.
Achievable: We will achieve our goal by updating our website periodically with fruitful information for our readers.
Relevant: The students currently taking a Chinese language course in our district are mostly learning about the language. How to speak, read and write it. They are not learning much about the culture because it is a hard language that needs the full class time to work on refining the language skills. Our website and in class presentation will provide information for the students about Chinese New Year and an outside source for them to learn more.
Timely: In order to achieve our goal on time, we plan to base our project around the Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar Year, a very popular holiday in China. This year Chinese New Year will start on February 19th, 2015 and will be the year of the sheep. We will work efficiently to make preparations and get our information ready so we can start posting at the start of the Lunar year.
